Needed this to cut some 4x12 and it does the trick.
Has a little play in it but that looks like it can be adjusted out if set up correctly. I just ripped it out of the box and put it to work and it exceeded my expectations, especially considering the prices of competing name brand units. Yes, I would recommend this to a friend. I have used it a lot and like it more all the time. Still can't believe the price. I can now say with complete sincerity and integrity that GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT!!! The updated 12 DUAL BEVEL sliding compound miter saw is an improvement from it's predecessor model in nearly every way.
I love that the motor is now located behind the blade unit rather than adjacent - allowing for much less potential for interference. The miter base itself is a significant improvement as well - with clearly defined measurements and relative detents for the most common stops. One of the MOST significant improvements, in my opinion, is the laser guide - which is now integrated just below the saw unit (where is SHOULD be) rather than attached onto the side (as it was in it's predecessor model). The laser is bright and true - and the 60-tool carbide tip blade that came with the unit cuts through wood like a hot knife through butter. I was even impressed with how well the included dust bag caught a good deal of sawdust during cutting operations.
It is, in my opinion, every bit comparable to it's much more expensive "brand name" equivalents - making this saw an AMAZING investment for the Home Hobbyist/Homeshop/DIY'er enthusiast. Super upgrade as compared to previous 12inch model. Very similar to the higher-priced saws in construction and functionality. Can't wait to get more uses from it. I'm an avid do-it-yourselfers and this is the best tool in my growing arsenal of tools.
On re designing your 12 miter saw. I also must say customer service at every one of your locations I have been to is top notch. 5 star all the way. A lot of saw for such a low price. The saw operates very well.Once setup and adjusted the cuts are very accurate. The saw was easy to use, and required little effort to slide back and forth. It does takes up a lot of space at 45 inches back to front. The fence is to short at only 2-5/8 inches. This made it difficult to cut large crown molding.
The manual gives no information about the laser light. I think the saw will provide years of satisfaction for remodeling around the house.
I have the older model with direct drive. Locked In Angles Are Off.
I have not found a way to set the angles that it locks into and its way off. I think there are predrilled holes for the swing arm pin to go into at the 90 and 45 degrees. I hooked up a shop vac to the saw dust shoot and most just goes on the floor.I just went out today to replace the blade and the screw you need to loosaen had a proprietary head shaped like a philips head but onlt 3 cuts. Not a bad saw but could be a lot better.
Nice saw for the price. Tilts Both Left And Right. Great saw for the price, but I would rate just OK when compared to others on the market.Disappointed that there is no blade brake whatsoever. I first thought the weight of the blade kept it spinning, but removing the blade and the motor still took the same time to stop. It took a few attempts to square up the fence, one bolt is covered by the left fence extension lock so you'll need a metric socket to reach the nut. This is the first saw I used with a laser, nice! I'm a bit concerned with the belt drive. They use a poly-V-belt in it's design. After making a few cuts, I noticed an unusual smell coming from the belt area.
I unplugged the saw and removed the belt cover. I was suprised at how hot the belt and pulleys were. I thought that the belt may be heating up since it was slipping, but after readjusting numerous times, I couldn't get rid of the heating issue. Maybe the belt needs to wear in a bit?
